🆕Zoom 6.0 - 5 cool new features!
⚒️ Update Special
Hi, it's Génesis! Sending warm greetings from chilly Argentina 🥶🧦🧤.
In April, Zoom launched update 6.0, bringing some cool new features!
We want to keep you in the loop as these changes might impact how you use Zoom, and as a facilitator, it’s good to know what's new so you can guide your audience effectively.
In this new version, Zoom introduced the ✨Zoom Workplace✨, a revamped desktop app with some notable improvements.
Here are the key updates for techs and hosts:
1. Tabs
Zoom now includes a new navigation bar with a main tab called “Meeting.” It opens new tabs when someone shares their screen, plays music, or uses an app. You can switch between “Meeting,” “Someone’s sharing Screen,” “App,” or any active tab in that Zoom meeting.
⚡ Pros:
Several participants can share screens simultaneously. If you’re working on specific tasks, you can easily switch between different screens.
⚠️ And you should know…
Keep in mind that when switching from the “Someone is sharing” tab to the “Meeting” tab, you might miss shared content or audio. We recommend not toggling between tabs to avoid missing any screen sharing or sound.
If a participant can’t see the screen sharing or hear sound, it might be because they clicked on another tab. Be prepared for this scenario and explain: “Zoom now has tabs at the top of the screen. Make sure you click on the ‘TECH-Name’ tab if someone is sharing their screen.”
Although this new tab feature might not be helpful for all situations, it can be useful for specific working sessions.
2. Meeting Wallpaper
A fun update! Zoom has added a few app themes and new wallpaper options for meetings, allowing for more personalization.
⚡ Pros:
You can choose from Zoom’s wallpaper options to match your topic or branding colors. You can also upload your own design through the settings on the Zoom site.
Hosts and co-hosts can change the meeting wallpaper for everyone at any time, which can be useful for changing topics or speakers.
⚠️ And you should know…
If participants have an older version of Zoom (before 6.0), they won’t see the wallpaper.
3. Reactions with effects!
Now Zoom has enhanced emojis that appear on your video. Choose the emojis in the “Send with effect” panel and let everyone know how you feel!
⚡ Pros:
You can make your reactions more visible now!
⚠️ And you should know…
It only works with your video on.
4. Customizable Meeting Toolbar
Zoom has simplified the meeting toolbar, making essential features more accessible. You can customize the toolbar by rearranging items/functions to suit your needs.
⚡ Pros:
It’s very helpful to have all the buttons you need handy without having to go to “more” to find them.
The order you choose will stay the same for any meeting you have if you’re using the Zoom client.
5. Multi-Speaker View
Zoom introduced the multi-speaker view option, which highlights active speakers in meetings with more than five participants. You can activate this feature via the "Views" option in the meeting window.
⚡Pros:
This is very useful for group discussions, letting you see active speakers as if someone is spotlighting them for you.
This is a personal view configuration, so if you enable it, your audience will still see the standard (gallery) or speaker view. Spotlights might still be the best option to ensure everyone sees the same view.
⚠️And you should know…
It might not be 100% accurate; if someone stops talking, they might stay in the speaker view for a couple of minutes. However, it’s worth trying!
It only activates for meetings with five or more participants.
Let us know in the comments below if you have tested any of these features already and what you like (or not so much) about them!
